Marvel, The Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Kicks Off a New Era of Heroes
Marvel fans, as they say, get ready—it’s clobbering time! With immense hype surrounding it, the very first trailer for *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* is finally here, giving viewers an exciting glimpse into the debut of the iconic superhero team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Since it is a film honoring the franchise’s 1960s origins with its retrofuturistic aesthetic, it will soon hit theaters on July 25.
The four astronauts involved are exposed to cosmic rays on their space mission. The main protagonist is Reed Richards, popularly known as Mr. Fantastic. He stretches his body to lengths that could never be explained scientifically. Playing him is Pedro Pascal. With him is Sue Storm, Invisible Woman, who generates force fields and can disappear in a matter of seconds, portrayed by Vanessa Kirby. Joseph Quinn is cast as Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch; he can engulf his body in flames or fly through the air. The last member is Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, whose appearance as a rock grants him superhuman strength and durability.
In the newly released trailer, Sue Storm delivers an impactful line that encapsulates the film’s core theme: *“Whatever life throws at us, we’ll face it together. As a family.”* This statement sets the tone for the adventure ahead, emphasizing the importance of unity in the face of overwhelming odds.
The trailer depicts several aspects that are beloved to the Fantastic Four lore, like the flying vehicle of the team, Fantasticar, and the robotic assistant known as H.E.R.B.I.E. But the biggest revelation is that Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson, will be visiting earth to consume its planet. In a short, ominous shot, Galactus locks his gaze onto New York City, and so the epic clash between the superhero family and one of Marvel’s most fearsome villains seems within reach.
Adding to the excitement is Julia Garner, who plays the Silver Surfer, Galactus’ mysterious herald. The film also boasts a star-studded supporting cast, including Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. Directed by Matt Shakman, best known for his work on *WandaVision*, the movie aims to redefine the Fantastic Four for a new generation while staying true to the spirit of the original comics.
The Marvel’s Fantastic Four franchise runs deep within history, not just in the print media but film as well. Created in the month of November 1961 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, this great team would gain much momentum before other icons found their place- Spider-Man and Iron Man or the X-Men.
On the big screen, there is *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, the fourth feature film to bring this team to life. The first major adaptation came in 2005 with *Fantastic Four*, starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. *Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer* released in 2007, and during that time, Evans has since become the icon for Captain America, portrayed Johnny Storm. There has also been a darker, grittier reboot from 2015 with Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell, and this one never found its fans, being ripped apart by many critics.
With Marvel Studios now at the helm of the franchise, fans are surely holding high hopes that *First Steps* will finally live up to the magnificent legend of the fan-favorite superhero team. It attempts to weave nostalgia with breakthrough storytelling, blending it so that it captures the essence of why the Fantastic Four held such a significant place in the Marvel Universe.
The excitement surrounding *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* is growing with the newly released trailer already making a lot of buzz. With the compelling cast, the visionary director, and the story that would do justice to the honoring of the team’s origin while making them a part of the MCU, it is going to be one heck of a film.
This coming July 25, Marvel’s First Family shall finally take its rightful place within the MCU. Until then, the trailer alone gives a delicious taste of this adventure. And so, for now, all is well since the Fantastic Four are back – and this time, they come to stay.
