Trump Putin Ukraine War: Trump Boldly Claims He Spoke with Putin About Ending Conflict
Moscow – The “Trump Putin Ukraine War” assumed a new direction as former US President Donald Trump said he just had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the termination of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the New York Post reported. This is the first direct reported communication between Putin and a U.S. president since the early part of 2022.
Trump, who has made repeated assurances to end the “Trump Putin Ukraine War,” has not yet outlined a clear plan but characterized the conflict as a “bloodbath.” He said his people had had “some very good talks” about peace initiatives.
In an interview on Friday aboard Air Force One, Trump refused to say how often he had talked with Putin, responding, “I better not say.” But he emphasized that the Russian president was receptive to a halt in the violence. “He (Putin) wants to see people stop dying,” Trump said in the Post. The White House has yet to make any comments regarding the issue.
Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov was diplomatic in response to a question regarding Trump’s comments in an interview with Russia’s state news agency TASS. “Numerous different communications are ongoing through different channels,” he stated. “I myself might not be aware of some conversations. So, I cannot confirm or deny it.”
The “Trump Putin Ukraine War” alludes to the wider conflict in Ukraine, which started in 2014 following the removal of a pro-Russian president during Ukraine’s Maidan Revolution. This saw Russia annex Crimea and fightings between Russian-supported separatists and Ukrainian forces in eastern Ukraine.
In 2022, Putin began a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, which he referred to as a “special military operation” to defend Russian-speaking populations and respond to what he stated was a threat to security posed by Ukraine possibly entering NATO.
Ukraine and its major Western allies, under the U.S., have decried the invasion as aggressive and have reaffirmed sustained support to Ukraine’s resistance of Russian forces.
Today, Moscow controls a large chunk of Ukrainian land—about the size of Virginia—and is moving at its quickest pace since the early days of the 2022 invasion.
While the “Trump Putin Ukraine War” continues to be a hot topic in international politics, the world waits anxiously to see whether Trump’s reported discussions with Putin might lead to peace.
