Taiwanese Actress Barbie Hsu, Who Starred in Meteor Garden, Dies at 48

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, widely known for the hit 2001 drama series Meteor Garden, has passed away at age 48 following influenza-induced pneumonia. Her sister, Dee Hsu, announced the news Monday.

Fondly remembered as “Big S” to fans, Hsu died mysteriously while out on a family vacation in Japan. The killing soon became a hot topic over China’s top social media and microblog Weibo.
“My loving and good sister Barbie Hsu left due to complications with flu,” Little S, Dee Hsu’s actual name, tearfully announced in an emotional message. “I’m glad that I got her as a sister in this lifetime, had fun times, loved her, and made some beautiful memories together. I’ll really miss and hold on to all these lovely things about her.”
Barbie Hsu first rose to fame as part of the pop duo S.O.S alongside her sister, but it was her starring role in Meteor Garden that made her a household name across East Asia.
She was married to South Korean musician Koo Jun-yup, known as DJ Koo, for nearly three years after her divorce from Chinese entrepreneur Wang Xiaofei, whom she was married to for 11 years. Hsu is survived by her two children.
Her death is a huge loss to the entertainment industry and her fans worldwide.
