Travis Kelce Approves of Taylor Swift’s Hype Before the Super Bowl: ‘Who’s Not a Swiftie?’
The Kansas City Chiefs are finally set to feature in Super Bowl LVIII and are getting energized by hype related to a different kind of quarterback: Taylor Swift. Surprise lyric changes or massive stadium appearances, Swift somehow made her impression in the world of football; however, for tight end Travis Kelce, this so-called “Tayvoodoo” isn’t worth being dismissed about.
It’s kind of like the fans have just come up with this thing called ‘Tayvoodoo,’ like she’s this mystical person that can control things,” Swift says. Fans are convinced she has some sort of magical power to make things happen, especially where Kelce and the Chiefs are concerned. Many point to October when Swift, during her Eras Tour performance at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, mimicked throwing a football. That very stadium hosts Sunday’s big game. Was it a prescience?
Kelce spoke to the rumors on Monday at a media session at the stadium.
“We love to manifest things, for sure, and you can’t say it’s not real, because we’re here, right?” he said. “Whatever she was doing, I’m sure it helped.”
The pop star has been making subtle references to Kelce and the Chiefs throughout her tour, and fans have been eagerly decoding what they believe to be hidden messages. They’ve referenced her unexpected mashups that seem to allude to the tight end, and her now-famous lyric switch to her song Karma. Whenever the Chiefs won, Swift sang, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.” The lighthearted nod to Kelce became a fan favorite and further cemented their relationship in the eyes of Swifties and football fans alike.
However, because of his football schedule, Kelce only got to attend one of Swift’s U.S. Eras Tour shows this year. Still, he said her gestures made him feel connected to her even from afar.
“For me not being able to be there supporting her during those weeks, it made me feel like I was there,” Kelce said on Monday.
The media session, which was supposed to be about getting the Kansas City Chiefs ready for the Super Bowl, spilled into questions about Swift. Kelce didn’t show any hint of complaints, though. When asked what he would say to those who do not like Swift, he said this short but very confident statement:
In addition to discussing her music, Kelce also praised Swift’s skills in the kitchen. When a reporter brought up Swift’s well-known love for baking, Kelce confirmed that she is, indeed, quite the chef.
“I’m a breakfast man. Her homemade Pop-Tarts are unbelievable,” he said with a grin.
Not in fun, he was acknowledging and acknowledging shared ambition that Kelce himself brought along into the industry he represents alongside Swift, their industrious character with hard-work attitudes and with abilities that leave her able to make an inspirited surrounding about herself.
“I better hold up my end of the bargain, right?” he said. “If she’s out here being the superstar that she is and never taking no for an answer and always working her tail off, I better match that energy.”
Swift, after all, recently made headlines for her appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards. She didn’t just leave with her 14th Grammy but also won Album of the Year for a record fourth time. She dressed in red—coincidence or not with the Chiefs’ signature color and accessorized with a “T” charm on her leg; that detail, of course, did not escape Swifties’ eyes.
Her presence at the Grammys was full of enthusiasm, as she was seen celebrating with a bottle of champagne and dancing alongside fellow artists, including Beyoncé. Though she is set to continue her Eras Tour in Tokyo this week, fans are eagerly speculating whether she will make it back in time to watch Kelce in the Super Bowl.
At the end of Monday’s press conference, Kelce took the time to send a heartfelt message to Swifties, sealing his remarks with a simple but powerful heart-hand gesture-one of Swift’s signature symbols of appreciation for her fans.
As the Super Bowl approaches, the world will be watching not just for the action on the field but also for the possibility of another magical Swift moment. Whether or not Tayvoodoo is real, one thing is sure: Swift’s influence remains unquestionable, going beyond pop culture and even the NFL.
